New Webpage (www.hmonglibrary.org) for Hmong Resource Center Library

From Mark E. Pfeifer, PhD
Editor, Hmong Studies Journal

The Hmong Cultural Center has launched a new website for the Hmong Resource Center Library at www.hmonglibrary.org. The website includes information about the library including library policies, hours and updated dissertations, books and journal articles holdings lists. The library webpage also includes a one-of-a-kind comprehensive Hmong Studies Virtual Library which provides links to full-text books, dissertations and research reports available through the internet.

The new website also includes links to the library newsletter (current and back issues), and a special webpage documenting the strong collection of Hmong Health-related research included in the library. The Hmong Health collection encompasses about ¼ of the entire library collection and includes dozens of theses and dissertations and hundreds of journal articles related to studies of Hmong Health (including special collections pertaining to Elderly Hmong Health, Disabilities, Mental Health, Pregnancy and Childbirth, and Sudden Nightmare Death Syndrome (SUNDS). . The library has the largest centralized collection of Hmong-related health research of any library, university, or organization in the U.S.

The Hmong Resource Center Library was founded in the late 1990s to provide a comprehensive collection of Hmong-related materials to the community. The growing collections include around 850 Hmong-related books, 260 Hmong-related theses and dissertations, 860 Hmong-related academic journal articles, over 3,500 Hmong-related newspaper articles and more than 200 videos. The library possesses the most significant collection of Hmong-related theses and dissertations and research journal articles of any institution in Minnesota or the United States. The Hmong Resource Center Library is open to the public Monday through Friday at the Hmong Cultural Center's offices above the Sunrise Market building at University Avenue and Chatsworth (near Lexington) in Saint Paul.
