Hmong Cultural Center Offers Work/Civics English Classes

From The Hmong Cultural Center

The Hmong Cultural Center in Saint Paul is currently accepting enrollments for free Work/Civics-focused English classes for adult English learners. The classes are offered M-F from 10 - 2 PM and M,T, TH, F from 4-6 PM. The Work/Civics English Classes at Hmong Cultural Center focus on the following concepts intended to familiarize students with the workplace and civic engagement in Minnesota:

• Students develop competency in basic keyboarding, Microsoft Word and e-mail tasks

• Students develop a basic personal resume

• Students learn the difference between "soft" and "hard" job interviewing skills and the importance of each to a successful job interview

• Students develop knowledge of high-demand entry level positions in the Twin Cities area.

• Students learn about physical and online resources to access information about job openings

• Students learn about a range of concepts pertaining to civic participation in the Twin Cities area, Minnesota and the U.S. and will take educational field trips to the Minnesota History Center and the Minnesota Capitol



This initiative is funded in part with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using federal Adult Literacy and Family Education funds

About Hmong Cultural Center: Founded in 1992, Hmong Cultural Center's mission is to promote the personal development of children, youth, and adults through cultural education while providing resources that enhance cross-cultural awareness and understanding between Hmong and non-Hmong persons. In early 2012, HCC earned "Meets Standards" Status from the Charities Review Council. Hmong Cultural Center is currently the only Hmong organization in Minnesota to have this status.
